Multi-location crew scheduling in Jobber: availability by market
· Petar · 2 min read
Once you're running crews across more than one part of town, "who's free Thursday?" turns into a harder question: "who's free Thursday near this customer?" A crew that's open across the city doesn't help if the job is 40 minutes the other way.
So teams improvise. The most common hack: tag each crew with a location abbreviation in their name — SLC, North, West — so you can eyeball who serves where. Then, every time a job comes in, you mentally filter the calendar twice: first by area, then by who's actually open that day.
Why the workaround breaks down
- It's manual, every single time. You're cross-referencing location against days off and booked jobs in your head, on the phone, under pressure.
- It doesn't scale. At three crews it's fine. Across four or five markets it's a spreadsheet you rebuild constantly.
- One mistake = a long drive or a missed job. Promise the wrong crew and you either eat the windshield time or call the customer back.
Filter by location, then by who's open
The cleaner model is to make location a filter on top of a live availability view. Pick the market, pick the day, and see only the crews that serve that area and are actually free — booked jobs and time off already subtracted. No name hacks, no second-guessing.
A note on multiple Jobber accounts
Bigger operators often run each market as its own Jobber account. That's fine — the goal is to see them without logging in and out all day. The first step is getting one clean availability read per market; switching between markets in one screen is the natural next step.
What to put in place
- A single availability view you can filter by crew, role, or area.
- Location captured as real data, not buried in crew names.
- The same fast read whether you run one market or five.
